The Journey to Dasta

Born and raised in Wisconsin, Sandeep Reddy is a graduate of Emory University with a degree in Financial Economics. But his journey into building Dasta did not begin in a classroom. It began on the streets of Hyderabad.

During his four years in India, Sandeep fell in love with chai culture. It was never just about the drink. It was about the experience. The warmth of the cup, the depth of spice, the aroma in the air. Each sip carried layers of flavor that lingered long after, almost dancing on the palate. What started as a simple routine quickly became something more meaningful: an appreciation for chai as a ritual, not just a beverage.

Inspired by this experience, Sandeep continued to explore the many variations of chai found not only in Hyderabad, but across India. At the same time, he launched a food and beverage venture in Hyderabad, where he worked alongside partners to build and operate Quake Arena, now ranked among the world’s top nightlife destinations—recognized as the 30th best nightclub globally and the number one nightclub in India. Together, they also developed a convention center with bookable halls designed to host large-scale events. Through these ventures, Sandeep gained hands-on experience across hospitality, entertainment, and food and beverage operations—yet throughout it all, his passion for chai remained a constant.

Now back in the United States, Sandeep realized that something he had come to value deeply during his time in India was missing: authentic, freshly brewed chai. He observed that many chain coffee shops, as well as specialty and artisanal cafés, relied on pre-made chai concentrates rather than traditional brewing methods. This contrast was disheartening. In that moment, his vision became clear—to recreate the experience he had fallen in love with and introduce it through a new kind of café, one rooted in authenticity, ritual, and innovation.

At Dasta, this vision comes to life through a simple yet powerful idea: East meets West; two rituals, one space.

Sandeep sought a way to thoughtfully introduce the ritual of chai, and believed that an authentic New York–style bagel — an already well-established ritual—would serve as the perfect bridge. The rich, traditional flavors of South Asian chai, paired with the iconic New York bagel, create a truly balanced experience—not just as food and drink, but as a daily ritual.

At Dasta, every detail reflects that vision. From authentic chai brewed with traditional spices to high-quality bagels inspired by New York classics, the menu blends culture and taste, introducing new flavors to curious minds. The space is designed for both productivity and comfort, giving students a place to focus while also offering a sense of familiarity to those far from home—a space that feels both globally inspired and locally loved.

But most importantly, it is about bringing people together through shared rituals. Because sometimes, the best moments do not come from rushing. Sometimes they come when you sit down and relax—with a cup of chai in hand.
